Marjorie L. Schoephoerster, 93, of Sumner, died Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the Hillcrest Home in Sumner.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Sumner, Iowa with Rev. Michael Christie officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Cemetery, rural Sumner with military rites provided by Thomas E. Woods Post #223, American Legion, Sumner, Iowa. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Hillcrest Home Chapel in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be made in her name to the Salvation Army or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner is assisting Marjorie’s family.

Marjorie Lenore, daughter of C. Thomas and Helen (Clarke) Clark was born June 3, 1921, at Des Moines, Iowa. She received her education in the Des Moines Schools, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1938. She received her R.N. degree from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines. She entered the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in May of 1943 and served until December of 1945 during World War II. She was commissioned to First Lieutenant and was stationed in England. On August 28, 1945, she was united in marriage with Eldon W. Schoephoerster in Des Moines. Marjorie completed her military obligation before joining Eldon in Sumner. The couple farmed for many years prior to moving in to Sumner in 1980. She was employed as a nurse at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner for ten years and over fifteen years at the Hillcrest Home, prior to retiring in 1994. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Sumner and the Thomas E. Woods Post #223, American Legion of Sumner. Marjorie was proud to have been on an honor flight to Washington, D.C. recently.

Marjorie is survived by seven children, Colleen (Ralph) Schmitz of Monticello, Iowa; Maureen (Norman) Zobel of Sumner, Iowa; Dr. George (Jeanie) Schoephoerster of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Philip (Rose) Schoephoerster of Champlin, Minnesota; Ann Garner of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; Keneth Schoephoerster of St. Cloud, Minnesota; and Dr. Richard (Lilia) Schoephoerster of El Paso, Texas; eighteen grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth O’Neill Weber of Seattle, Washington.

In addition to her husband, who died May 11, 2007, and her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Coe and Patricia Jones.

As the administrator of the Waterloo Honor Flight that Marjorie was honored with, I recall her as such a delightful lady. So tiny was she that I had her wrap her arms around my neck and I piggy-backed her from the steps of the bus to her wheel chair to make certain her frail body didn't have a mishap.

She was just a joy, so precious, so anxious and eager to enjoy her day in our Nation's Capital. She was like a child in a toy store and one could clearly see she was enjoying every second of the trip that was created to honor her, and her comrades, for her service to our country.

May she now fly as an angel in the heavens as her reward of Eternal Life has been given. Marjorie, I salute you and may God bless you for eternity. Janet Liming

We were saddened to hear the news about your mom. What a nice person! We always enjoyed talking with her. She and Rose (Momma Senft) always loved getting together to talk, talk, talk, talk. We thought they would run out of chit chat but not so. She had an interesting life and did a great job of raising a family. We know she will be missed. We have fond memories of her.

Dear Schoephoerster family,
My deepest sympathies to you in your loss. Marjorie was a lovely person, and it was my privilege to help take care of her for the past 19 months. She will especially be missed by my husband and me in our Hillcrest church services; she always told me how much she enjoyed the servics and, recounting some of the points taught, told me to let him know how much she appreciated the sermon. Though we are sad, thankfully, to the Christian, it is not "good-bye" but just "so long for a while"...until we get to Heaven or meet Jesus in the air! May God comfort you and give you strength at this time.
